How to Start a BPO Business
Starting a BPO is one of the best businesses to do in India. If you have a small office space wherein you can squeeze in a couple of computers and a desk for telephones and a copier machine, you can start-off your BPO business confidently.
BPO business in India includes data entry jobs, call center jobs, telemarketing jobs, customer service jobs, payroll processing, medical transcription, settling insurance claims, supply chain management and other bookkeeping services
How to Start a BPO (Business Process Outsourcing)?
- Have a Plan Ready: Always decide your area of operation. Pick one BPO field in which you have sufficient mastery. Decide how many companies you are going to apply with. Submit a resume with the companies. In the beginning, it is important to build a profile. Starting for little money would not be a bad option.
- Take Up a Challenging Application Process: It is easy to apply with some BPO companies. All you need to do is fill out an online form and wait for a response. For some you need to get in touch directly and explain your experience and background. Remember the more hoops you have to jump through in getting a contract, the lesser competitors you are likely to have.
- Keep Track of Your Applications: Companies take a long time to reply. Keep a tab of the companies you’ve applied along with the date of application. Keep calling the companies till you get a call.
- Pay Attention to Detail: You need to do something different to set yourself apart.
When you try to get in touch with a company for the first time or are sending reminders to a company which hasn’t responded, do not forget to include the following:
- Weekly stats on your market
- Some promotional items with your logo / contact information
- Mail them a memorable item regularly. This may include sports schedules, holiday postcard etc.
It is important for banks and lenders to know that you are a good agent. Start by finding an up to date list of companies that need BPO’s done for their properties. The quickest way to break into the BPO field is to buy a list from a reliable provider.
Keep reminding people handing out BPO assignments that you desire to become a BPO agent for them. Assure them that you are going to do an excellent job for them.
How to Start a Call Centre?
As call centre is a roaring business in India you can start a call centre with some know how’s:
- Decide on what type of call centre you wish to begin i.e. in house, inbound, outbound, or outsource call centre.
- Devise a business plan. Outline your business goals, financial needs, logistics and staffing plan
- Look for clients in websites providing job services. Send mails to companies seeking services.
If you follow the above steps and regularly get in touch with the right leads from your list, BPO can be the best business for you.

Many international firms provide this accounting work to India as to save their time and money as well. But this business you can get through in terms of contract. Because normally no company will trust any individual easily and the same thing from the individual as well. So you need to have contacts with some overseas firms or Indian firms for such contracts. First of all, you need to have knowledge of such companies which provides such services.
Then from where you want to get contract of call center? Do you want to start Domestic or International call center?
You should visit such associations of call centers and BPOs to get information.

I think you should get thorough knowledge of this field and then try to do it. It is basically contract based services. Indian firms have BPO contracts with the overseas companies. This contracts are based on particular work, time etc.
For 30 seaters, you need minimum 5-6 laks of capital.

I have enough knowledge about bpo process means how do they do the work in office and my most of the friends are doing job in this industry from long time but still they cant find out how those bpo are getting process from other companies so it is quite difficult to every employee of bpo to get these kind of information from the company.But by doing job they can know the process that how bpo are working in office but still the problem is same how they are getting contracts from other companies?

Remember one thing, as far as competition is concerned, always remember your school life competition.
I mean to say that you don’t know what your competitor is doing or will do? But you know your capacity. So try to prepare the best project you can. See ultimately, the project will go in the hands of the company which will provide them cheaper services. So why don’t you try to give as minimum cost as you can. This is not a movie where we get the figures of the competitors and get the project. You have to work hard and smartly.

Now you will get answer your self by reading this.
If I am a BPO owner and I haven’t established my infrastructure and I come to you for a contract, will you trust me or give me the contract? The answer is NO right?
Because in international trade and deals the risk factor is the biggest question mark.
There is a document called “Guarantee of Credit or Letter of credit Guarantee”, it is issued by your bank when you provide them information about future plan, they will sanction you a loan for infrastructure. And if you have ready infra with you, the will provide the letter of credit guarantee or credit guarantee. This will make the overseas party trust on you.

For a decent work, you should have some authenticated details about the companies. This you can find from the government websites and business directories, business magazines etc.

The payment terms may deffer from contract to contract. It may be the D.A (document again acceptance), it may be D.P (document against payment), L.C (letter of credit), Advance payment etc.
It is a kind of export only, so to start that youneed to get the license of service export.
Break even point is dependent on your operations and functions, I can not suggest the B.E.P because it is something numerical and everyone has it’s own calculations.
See, since you don’t know people at overseas, you have to pay some amount to agents but the M.O.U should be very clear and you need to take care of your payments.

Mr. Ashish,
You first need to develop some experience in this field as you are very new to this. Then you need to develop new contacts with different firms. For that you can do a job in some BPO firms as well.
Then you can select the area of your business. Once you are sure with the service type, you can establish your firm.
Then you need to acquire IE no. Because a BPO service is a kind of service export, you need to register as an export-import firm.
Then you can get the orders from overseas parties and start your business.

I think most of the people who want to get in to the BPO industry has the same problem and there are the sources for this. You can search for the names from the just dial, Info line and other local info media services or you can get the list from the export promotion council of India’s website if it is there.
