Study of Engineering in India
If you wish to become an engineer you need to study science as your higher secondary course. If you have basic knowledge of physics, chemistry and mathematics you can apply for admission to various engineering colleges in India. The cutoff percentage for being eligible for admissions varies from college to college. Most reputed colleges take students after conducting a test on all-India. The most sought after engineering institutes in India are the IITs.
Other common entrance tests for admissions to the top engineering colleges in India include GATE, and JMET. A few top engineering colleges in India like IIT, Delhi even offer short term courses on various subjects.
Many colleges take in candidates on the basis of the percentage marks got in class XII (in physics, chemistry and mathematics). Several institutes give importance to marks scored in national common tests. The IITs hold a Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for the admission to the seven IITs.
